As a fellow AT long hiker , thank you for sharing your hike .
Prophet my ass!
FYI... it's actually "amateur radio".. you like that word "ham" don't you.
generalization, tool of the ignorant.
Keyboard warrior tool of a pussy. Proof he turns off comments on HIS videos.
@@K1OIK I have no videos dumb ass. Why don't you turn in your license since "ham radio" sucks so much. Mr Negative
Have loved this since I first saw it! A lot of truth here! It is good to see it pop up every so often.
U are definitely funny
DL9PIG is a swine for sure.
Love your content. Wow, it is a revelation, thank you very much for what you posted. By the way at 6:11, you stated "no one is all that anxious to talk to a king..." It should read eager not anxious. Recall, anxious implies fear, dread, anxiety, sadness, and the like, all negative emotions. Whereas eager indicated a positive feeling as in looking forward with excitement to something. Recalling my Latin studies, anxious came from the Latin word Angere, its implication was to choke or strangle someone. Thus, nobody is looking forward to being choked nor strangled. The word anxious has an emotionally negative connotation, unlike eager being a very positive feeling looking forward to something. Thank you for reading.
Beautiful transmitter! God bless - Joe VE7LSB
Nice video and love the old rigs, but that qso is with my old friend Gary N5PHT not K5PHT. He has moved from Savoy, TX to Kansas now. Nice to hear my friend on the old reciever. Thanks de W5SWV
You are correct.
This person is exactly right. I first got my license in 1966. Still have my license but I haven't been active since 1996. Got out of the hobby for the reasons outlined by this person. Amateur radio used to be fun years ago, It is not anymore.
So this was corrected with a firmware update? It would be helpful if you would post that.
What are you referring to?
@@K1OIK The lockup and AM issue in your video??
@@fintronics Lockup was fixed. AM is an afterthought for Elecraft, the issue still exists.

I was born in 1945. "Little Darling" put the spark in me.😊😊😊
Antenna?
Yes.
Do you know dude I hate to admit it, but you are right on a lot there is a lot of Truth in what you said especially about contesting. I cannot stand contest is or contests a contest is whenever you win money or prizes not to get your name and call sign in a damn magazine such egotistical dipshit in my opinion.
I love this vintage equipment! I can remember when someone first showed me the light bulb trick. It was on a solid state 100 watt radio, but the bulb still lit up even though it was a 2:1 VSWR. Happy Memorial Day!
Considered Parks on the Air but buddy said that I really should SPOT myself which is announcing online your expected location, frequency and time. OK, maybe. Contacts are then a few seconds. Wow. Finally, CW slower than about 25 wpm is not welcomed. Ops out there dont like to slow down. Done no hamming in early retirement.
5/2024:Good Day From The Future. "Hiding", yes. CB Radio, many years ago. A friend belonged to a CB club. One day a guy with the "Handle" of "Bad Penny", got into an argument with my friend on the radio. BP made a threat to my friend and they agreed to meet in person. When my friend stood up out of his car, he was MUCH Taller then BP. That's when it ended. "Talk can be cheep". I've always been interested in HAM & SW listening. I still listen to Short Wave, HAM sometimes and I have a 100 foot wire outside antenna. SW is nothing at all like it was in the 1960's, etc, anymore. A lot of religious bunk these days. I do like the toys, but too much involved in HAM in my opinion, for myself. I don't have that much to talk about, but it could be fun. CB Radio hasn't changed... Times Change. * I like this posting. I could enjoy talking to you on the radio, if I had one. Thank You & Best Regards.
What did you type HAM instead of ham? Why are you interested in ham, I like steak?
@@K1OIK Potato-Patato, Tomato-Tumahato. In the real world, it just doesn't matter! Note: "Why, Not What"

Beautiful radios I have a lot of old radios love them. 73s pal
I have one of these, but I have yet to fire it up. I been given it during the lockdown, but I haven't had time to check it out. To be honest I am a bit intimidated by it with all those controls! 🙂
Don't lie. How much time could it possibly take to check it out? I am glad you decided however to now be honest.
Old skool rules...
I thought this was sarcasm at first. Imagine being so upset at a hobby.
It is not only a hobby.
@@K1OIKshare with the class. How is it that it isn’t or can’t be? You’ll not offend me. The video stuck me as odd. Plenty of people share your opinion I’m asking why
@@muddytiresclub4264 This is what ham radio is supposed to be: Basis and purpose. The rules and regulations in this part are designed to provide an amateur radio service having a fundamental purpose as expressed in the following principles: (a) Recognition and enhancement of the value of the amateur service to the public as a voluntary noncommercial communication service, particularly with respect to providing emergency communications. (b) Continuation and extension of the amateur's proven ability to contribute to the advancement of the radio art. (c) Encouragement and improvement of the amateur service through rules which provide for advancing skills in both the communication and technical phases of the art. (d) Expansion of the existing reservoir within the amateur radio service of trained operators, technicians, and electronics experts. (e) Continuation and extension of the amateur's unique ability to enhance international goodwill.
@@K1OIKclubs, social clubs with callsigns, contests sanctioned by the rules you sited and the FCC you quoted. Digital modes like ft8, made by people in clubs who enjoy the hobby and increase the service by adding value to the community and to the hobby. You are allowed to enjoy by complaining. Talk about the old days and how it use to be. 80m is completely full of folks like that. Make videos complaining about it. The hobby is here for the laptop crowd, MARS crowd, CB crowd and the mix of them all. Even clubs for people who complain about radio. HOAs can help with not liking radio and you can even live there and own a radio and complain about people with radios.
Can you hear people on ssb? Do you need a frequency generator to hear people on Ssb?
Do you listen to ssb? And if so do you need a frequency generator to listen to ssb
The BFO is used, (CW position).
@K1OIK I guess I still don't understand, from what i read on the internet the unit can only pick up AM stations. Like my local Spanish music station. I have seen other videos of people listening to ssb but had to use a frequency generator to do so. And if they are listening to ssb what band would it be? Like 2 meters?
@@jasonschwarting9562 A BFO inserts a carrier for CW and SSB, no one uses a frequency generator. This receiver has a CW/SSB control in the upper left.
@K1OIK so you are listening to ssb with no mods and no frequency generators? Do you get much chatter? I thought that rig could only get AM stations so it could only hear like local Spanish music stations
@@jasonschwarting9562 How many times do you need to be told the same thing?
Due to the Internet and modern communications yes, we don't need to know Morse code and we don't need HAM radios, but HAM is still important, as a backup, in the event that all other forms of communications go down, I checked the exams, its only basic electronics questions and some radio communications questions, we should all learn, it could save you're life and others in an emergency.
HAM? HAM?
Beautiful rigs. Thanks for sharing.
Funny. These days I live and let live. But I can't stand zealots of any kind.
Good work. I believe you only scratched the surface. I could go on for hours about the stupidy. Sadly it is a dead hobby.

Howdy Burt .. I recently posted your videos on my Facebook page ... Its been a long time and some people in the HAM community either have no sense of humor or you are absolutely RIGHT . ... By the way I have been to England , Scotland , Wales , Ireland twice and Puerto Rico 31 times (including the HAM radio festival in Hatillo) and took my Grandson to Puerto Rico where we visited the Arecibo Dish and got a VIP tour with Angel Vasquez .... Thats something I can talk about forever .
Why do you capitalize HAM?
I have not seen a Simpson 260 multimeter used since the 80's/90's when i was on AD with the US Air Force Civil Engineers
